Safe Kids Cabarrus

Karen has joined the advisory board of Safe Kids Cabarrus. She attended her first meeting last week and was very impressed with what this organization represents.

Here's a little bit of info about Safe Kids Cabarrus!

Safe Kids Cabarrus Coalition is a grass roots organization working together and in partnership with a medley of agencies, departments, individuals, and organizations to prevent unintentional injury to our children ages 14 and under.

This organization began over ten years ago with the Concord Fire and Life Safety program. The educators working in this program were concerned about the number of children being prevented if only the parents had been instructed on child safety.

Safe Kids holds regular community events and workshops across Cabarrus County to address these important safety issues:

*Child Passenger Safety (including Car Seats and Seat Belt use)
*Bike Safety
*Water Safety
*Fire Safety

The following are permanent checking stations for child safety seats:

Concord Fire Station #3
100 Warren C Coleman
Concord, NC 28025
704-920-5529
Mondays 10am-2pm

Kannapolis Fire Station #1
300 Firehouse Drive
Kannapolis NC 28083
704-920-4261
Last Friday of each month 10am-2pm

Here are a few agencies represented in Safe Kids Cabarrus:

Jeff Gordon's Children's Hospital
Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast
Concord Fire and Life Safety
Cabarrus Health Alliance
Cabarrus Partnership for Children
Kannapolis Fire Department
Concord Police Department
Kannapolis Fire Department

So... we're brainstorming ways to spread safety awareness for Safe Kids Cabarrus. Our thoughts... maybe a portrait fundraiser with an old restored fire truck, here at the studio. The proceeds can go to Safe Kids. While we're photographing, we could host the Safety Check for car seats and seat belts. And we could host a bike rodeo in the parking lot, where children can be fitted for bike helmets and learn about bike safety! Sounds exciting to us! Your thoughts?
